Since I wanted now to maximize the features of my cameras, I forced myself to shoot videos while my son and I toured Camarines Sur and Albay in the Bicol Region.
Shooting was a breeze, editing it was not. UGH!
I started editing this video within the week that we got back in Manila. I was excited to see the final output that I spent an entire morning to early evening frantically choosing and editing photos and cutting down videos. When I got home, I was too excited to show it to my Mom (who was also with us in Bicol) and to my son, Mokong, that I tried to play the video from the editing software that I was using. Unfortunately, the video wasn’t playing as smoothly as I wanted it to be. I figured that since all my videos were in HD, my disc might have been full. I checked on several folders and decided to delete a few files that I thought I wouldn’t need.
Again, I thought I wouldn’t need.
When I got back to iMovie, all the mov and avi files I placed at the timeline were all in black.
Uh-oh!
I panicked, of course. I even harassed my brother (an editor and graphic artist by profession) to try and remedy the mess that I did. But of course, he can’t do anything much about it when I deleted all the files that I used and emptied my trash.
Okay, I was stupid.
The good news, though, was that the photo thumbnails of the videos I used were still visible in the timeline. I used these to guide me in quickly finding the files that I needed. And by 12 midnight, I was done. Yey!
I was designing a title card when my laptop suddenly froze. I waited for a while for the laptop to catch up with what I was doing. When it went back to normal, I quickly exported my video to an mov file to save whatever edit I’ve made, just in case I messed up something again. After exporting, I quickly erased all the temporary files and emptied my trash, as the problem was really that the disc was full.
Thinking that my edit was properly saved, I played the mov file I exported. And horror of all horrors, the entire video was in black. The music that I used, though, kept on playing.
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Sob! Sob! Sob!
I was so frustrated that I didn’t even bother figuring out what went wrong this time. I was too tired from all the effort I gave to my edit that I just slept on the sofa. I simply had no energy at all to even go to my room and sleep there.
I was beyond sad.
I let a few days passed by before I made attempts on editing our Bicol videos again. This time, I figured out a way to go around the problem of having too much file in my disc. I wasn’t in a hurry this time. I wanted to make sure that I wouldn’t mess up this video again.
Finally, my tricky scheme was successful. Thank God I finally finished editing our travel video.
So, here it is. Hoping you can spare 5 minutes of your time (please do, I almost cried editing this!) to watch our MTV-ish travel video using Maroon 5’s Moves Like a Jagger as background music. If the video doesn’t load, here’s the YouTube link: http://youtu.be/jzR1LKXPPu8

Kahit na ba frustrating yung mga events to finish your video it was a good video. Good job on the travel video on Bicol!
@ Josiah – thanks! had a lot of criticisms, though, from my brother. hahaha!
Hi Mokong I’m your fan, baka ikaw na papalit kay Drew
nakuh, baka hindi… all he could say is “welcome to…” and another “welcome to…” haha!
I can understand the frustration you have experienced!!! Ako rin I am currently trying to make a video of my baby’s first year.
You did a wonderful job here!! 2 thumbs up!!
thanks, jadey! good luck on your own video
Nice work Barok! This takes a lot of patience and hardwork! Bilib ako sa yo
thanks, Joy! will i really mess my sensor if i take too many videos?
I’m not really sure if that’s fact or fiction. All I read was because you open your aperture too long, it makes the sensor prone to dust. Madali naman palinis yung dust eh. Hindi Lang ako ready to have someone mess with mine yet.
Good job with the video Sis!
I know, making one can get really stressing, especially when files go haywire or missing.
This reminds me to brush up on my pretty much non-existent video skills.

what a great job!!! You’ve got the patience of a saint!! i think i would’ve just cried…and gave up…for at least 5 months…
haha! 5 months? glad mine was just a mere 5 days. LOL
i love the video…=)
seriously … aliw.. =) i know kakaiyak talaga magedit hahaha i feel for you..
hahaha! thanks… i should have just asked my brother to edit for me… hindi pa ako napagod. LOL
Wow, nice vid! Sana makapunta din kami soon, but we’re still saving up for a trip to HK eh! How much yung budget for a 3-day trip, and what places would you recommend na puntahan namin?
i wasn’t in such a tipid mode when my son and i went to HK. on our 1st day, we went to Harbour Square and The Peak. 2nd day was all in Disneyland. 3rd day morning was in Ocean Park, then we went to Macau na. our HK trip was really for my son. good luck with your HK trip!
I’m sorry I’m laughing so hard … but I share your pain, girlfriend! I’m SO not into the techno stuff … so I admire you for actually working out how to do it so well!!
Have a great day!!
You did such a wonderful job on this travel video! I like how it is both a slideshow and actual video snippets. Your hard work paid off.
