Halloween is just around the corner. And I’m pretty sure, other Moms out there are probably busy getting ready the super hero, or fairy tale princess, or thriller costumes that their kids are going to wear.
I’m not.
I’m just not much of a fan of these Halloween parties. Sorry.
So, when a kiddie Halloween party was held at a friend’s office in Makati, she decided to kidnap my then 3-year-old son and bring him there. “If you’re not a party-goer, then you should stay at home,” my friend told me. “But there’s no reason for your son not to go out and enjoy, right?” UGH! To block off any further protests from my end, they showed me this cute little Buzz Lightyear costume that they borrowed for my son to wear. Hmm… A well-planned kidnapping, indeed.
Okay, fine. Let my son go to the party.
My son was out all afternoon. At first, it was okay as I finally had my peace and quiet at home. After awhile, I miss the noisiness.
And then, I got worried. Did I pack enough snacks and milk to last the entire afternoon? Did I place enough diapers inside his baby bag? Did he enjoy playing with the other kids? I wasn’t worried at all that he’s spending the whole afternoon with a friend. I’ve known her for such a long time and she’s really great with kids. I was just a bit worried though that my son might have ran around too much to tire her or worse, had tantrums.
Thankfully, none of these ever happened. Before 6pm, the “legally kidnapped” son was back at home.
My friend said that my son had been superb at the party – playing with the other kids, enjoying the games. He loved his costume, too. Too much, actually, that he didn’t want to take it off to pee!
I was glad my son enjoyed his party. At his young age, you can just see the glow in his eyes as he tried to relate the events of his day. He talked non-stop about the party (for days!). He said he saw Jollibee in person and danced with him. He even saw Green Lantern there, too!
Seeing how overjoyed he was, I regret not going to this kiddie Halloween party. For a moment there, I cursed myself for being selfish. I should have put my son’s enjoyment above anything else. I should have been there at the party with him.
Oh, well. For now, I’ll just settle with the photos my friend took from her mobile phone.

Ang cute, hehehe! I love the Buzz Lightyear costume! =)
@ JoMi – thanks! i love it too… we just borrowed it from a friend
Halloween is now part of the Holidays that kids are looking forward to like Christmas. When my kids were small they didn’t know what Halloween was, they just saw it on foreign TV programs, so unlike today..
